I loved the article. I just randomly found this but I used to live in Ashok's district. He really did have an immense amount of support but was continuously attacked by the media, business interests, and the political elite. I remember listening to the radio and hearing Kumar's name come up all the time usually in the form of racist rants ..(http://podcast.loyalears.com/wtdy.php?task=browse&file_id=1804) like this one after he passed a law changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day.
