Published bimonthly since 1986, AGAINST THE CURRENT is a Solidarity-sponsored analytical journal for the broad revolutionary left. Farber is probably the most
Farber is probably the most interesting thinkers on the U.S. left today; both his book on Russia and his one on social decay make important points that need to be made.
What is in question here is whether there were "suppressed historical alternatives" in Russia, which takes the debate to a higher level. With an upcoming book by Elizabeth White "The Socialist Alternative to Bolshevik Russia: The Socialist Revolutionary Party, 1917-39" and the ongoing research by Mark Melancon, much of the hidden history of the Left SRs has finally come to light. It can be argued that the Left SRs were in fact a suppressed historical alternative.
